Cutting Plywood

The following suggestions will help to control chip-out when cutting plywood:

  • Avoid cross-cutting plywood whenever possible.

  • Use a plywood cutting blade.

  • Position best face down when cutting with a portable circular saw.

  • Position best face up when cutting with a table saw or radial arm saw.

  • Score the line of cut using a utility knife.

  • Score the line of cut by making a light pass with the saw blade.

  • Place masking tape over the line to be cut.

  • Attach a backing panel using double-sided tape.

  • Use a router with a 1/4"" straight bit.

  • Invest in a panel-scoring attachment for your table saw.
